Short background story of a character I had seen in the TV series but never appeared in a book before.

Like Drive and The Butcher of Anderson Station, the story is split between a present time and flashbacks of the protagonist’s past, neither of which I found particularly engaging. There were some interesting ideas here and there, but overall I didn’t get much from this book.

I was hoping they were going to expand more on what the research data means. The story feels like it is cut short in the middle or like this is a missing chapter from one of the books, not sure from where exactly though, the timeline is rather unclear.
