I couldn’t have asked for a better adaptation.

A local cinema happened to show all three lord of the ring movies in original language but sadly I’m busy when parts two and three are shown. Technically, I had seen this movie before (and perhaps some of the other two) but that was years ago and I remembered nothing outside a few key scenes.

Considering the length and density of the book, I think its quite impressive that they fit the whole story into the admittedly lengthy runtime with as few changes as there are.

The story started off quite rushed I think, with especially the part between Hobbiton and Bree missing a lot of major and minor plot points. I am quite happy however that the film makers took my recommendtation to omit Tom Bombadil and his swamp :>. Overall the omissions don’t hurt the story much, although I wish they would have taken a bit more time to introduce Aragorn.

Many things I praised the hobbit movies for I now realize are merely copied/adapted from this movie. I still think they were good in the hobbit but it further reduces the amount of original innovation present there.
