Windows start menu search is terrible. I cannot think of a time where the Smart-AI-ntellisearch Customized-Experience™ gave me better results than a simple substring search would have. Even worse, often it simply does not return any result that I would have wanted.

For example, I want to set up an external display. So I type “display” into the search field. There exists a whole category of settings inthe settings app that is called “Display”. Naturally I search for that, however “Device Manager” appears as the first result, promptly followed by other sub-menus of the Display settings. But none of these are what I was searching for!

Microsoft has been “refining” this for decades, I do not understand how they can actively make a worse search than in previous iterations while presumably increasing their effort.
